The RS variant sports 19-inch wheels, which are somewhat larger than the 18-inch rims from the previous year. The Trailblazer was revamped this year with new front and front designs that distinguish the trims. White and gray paint are included in the price, but my tester’s eye-catching Crimson Red, like most other colors, costs an additional $495. Introduced in 2027, the Trailblazer’s interior twin-screen display comes standard with an 8-inch digital instrument unit and an 11-inch central touchscreen. The new 11-inch touchscreen has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but it doesn’t have navigation built in. Like many automakers, it offers subscription services. All versions come with single-zone climate control, LED headlights, and six-speaker audio (upgraded to a seven-speaker system in our tester).

Later, the RS and activ grades include faux-leather upholstery, a center armrest for the back seat, and a powered driver’s seat. Optional features include a 120-volt power outlet, a hands-free power tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, automated climate control, a cargo cover, an auto-dimming mirror, and a wireless charger.

Engine and Performance

There are two turbocharged three-cylinder engines available for the Trailblazer, depending on how many wheels are being driven. The 1.2L engine, which generates 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, is coupled to an automatic continuously-variable gearbox (CVT) through the LS and LT in FWD. It features an AWD system, a conventional nine-speed automatic transmission, and a 1.3L engine that produces 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque.

In the city, that little 1.3L feels active enough when driving through traffic and well off the line. It takes a while to get up to highway speed, but once you do, it goes smoothly. However, when you put your foot down, it starts to wheeze. Making plans for your passing moves becomes instinctive.

According to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the Trailblazer with AWD uses regular-grade gasoline and has official ratings of 9.0 L/100 km in the city, 8.1 on the highway, and 8.6 in combined driving (the FWD version has a combined rating of 7.8). I averaged 8.3 L/100 km and spent a lot of time driving long highways. Driver-assist features including automatic high-beam control, lane-keep assistance, buckle-to-drive, teen driver controls, emergency front braking with pedestrian detection, and the backup camera that is standard on all new cars are all included in the base LS model. Adaptive cruise control was an additional option for my tester. With FWD and AWD, the Trailblazer starts at $28,699 and goes up to $34,999. It is comparable to certain competitors who provide both: The Toyota Corolla Cross ranges in price from $29,580 to $37,880, while the Kia Seltos starts at $27,345. The price of the Subaru Crosstrek with basic AWD ranges from $31,290 to $40,290 (including delivery). The Buick Encore GX, the Trailblazer’s twin, has a 1.3L engine and can be purchased with either FWD or AWD for a starting price of $31,649.

The 2027 Chevrolet Trailblazer is competitive, but not particularly superior to the many excellent rivals in this subcompact crossover market. Test-drive it extensively on city streets and highways since it is comfortable, useful, and handles smoothly and responsively. However, this is also true of the majority of its competitors.
